Bray Found Innocent; Resumes Campaign for Governor

DECEMBER 8, 2023 (HOLLY SPRINGS)—The Committee to Elect Shannon Bray today released the following statement by the candidate concerning the resumption of his campaign for election as North Carolina governor, following the successful resolution of trials stemming from his arrests in August on assault and marijuana possession charges.

“Last Friday, I was the defendant in two bench trials here in Wake County. One trial concerned the assault charges against me, and as I predicted a couple of months ago, I was found innocent of every count. The other trial dealt with various marijuana-related offenses and on advice of counsel, I copped a plea to misdemeanor possession and all the other charges were dropped.

“With the resolution of these legal issues behind us, I intend to focus my full attention back onto my gubernatorial campaign. I remain committed to demonstrating that we can govern our state while respecting the rights of each and every North Carolinian, which includes staying out of your bedroom and out of your pocketbook.

“In the coming weeks you can expect my campaign to address the issues that most affect the citizens of North Carolina including the economy, healthcare, education, and electoral reform.

“And possibly a bit more emphasis on the need to legalize marijuana than I originally envisaged.”
